Established in 1987 by Philip Pinel, Storage Equipment Safety Service Ltd (SESS) is the only completely independent, professional, rack inspection company covering the UK, Europe and the United States.

We specialise solely in the consideration of Safety and therefore provide a unique service; each of our rack inspectors, throughout our countrywide network, has many years' experience in the storage equipment industry and all our racking inspections are carried out in accordance with SEMA codes and guidelines.

We are respected member of the Storage Equipment Manufacturers' Association (SEMA), we have individual membership of IOSH and we are associate members of the United Kingdom Warehousing Association (UKWA). In December 2002 we became full members of the Material Handling Industry of America (MHIA). In addition we have a collaboration agreement with the FTA (Freight Transport Association) providing the full range of services to both FTA and SESS customers.

In September 1990 we qualified for the quality standards formerly BS 5750 Part 2 which then became ISO 9002. Our BSI Registration Number is FS 10668. In May 2003 we were upgraded to ISO 9002 and then to ISO 9001:2000. In November 2000 we achieved the National Standard for Investors in People and were successfully reviewed in September 2003, 2006 and 2009.

We are the only totally independent company in the UK, Europe and North America providing rack inspections. Our clients range widely and include many blue chip companies.

Rack Safety inspections are covered by legislation in the UK under both the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999. In Ireland, Safety Inspections are covered by legislation under the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work Bill 2004. In Canada, Safety Inspections are covered by legislation under the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Chapter 7 of the Acts of 1996 (Canada) and the Occupational Safety & Health Regulations amended 1998/09/16. In the USA, Safety Inspections are covered by legislation under the Occupational Safety & Health Act 1970 - USA.

The Company has grown steadily and continues to expand throughout the UK, Ireland and North America with trained Rack Inspectors providing a range of Warehouse Safety Services to the Warehousing and Distribution Industry.
