Please note that we do not carry out repairs or installation work. This allows us to provide you with an unbiased opinion on the condition of your racking. However, we can supply items such as safety locking pins and safe working load notices, calculated using data collected during your latest inspection. If you require assistance, SEMA has a list of SEMA approved installation companies. You can view the list here.
Yes, our accounts department can take credit card payments over the phone.
After completing repairs, we can offer a post-repair check or inspection. Alternatively, we will check the repairs during your next regular inspection.
During our inspection, our Safety Consultant collects the necessary data for our technical department to produce the Safe Working Load Data. To meet SEMA requirements, we must supply data in a specific format and include our supplier information to ensure traceability. The code also mandates that we only supply data printed on our load notice. This ensures all data is displayed in the correct colors, at the correct size, and on a board of sufficient quality and robustness.
Our technical department will advise you on updates when Load Notices are calculated, printed, and dispatched after we receive your order at head office.
During our inspection, our Safety Consultant will determine the exact number of load notices your site requires. Many factors affect the provision of load notices, so we need a thorough understanding of your racking configurations. You will receive a final quote for any Load Notices with your complete report. In the meantime, we can provide our load notice price list for your information.
The SEMA guide to the conduct of racking and shelving inspections infers that the following types of storage equipment be inspected.
- Shelving
- Pallet racking
- Cantilever racking
- Drive-in racking
- Live-storage racking
- Push-back racking
However, we do have the technical knowledge and ability to inspect various other types of storage equipment.
Our administration department aims to issue the complete report within two working weeks of the inspection date. Please note that unforeseen circumstances may occasionally cause delays in processing reports.
Our job planning department typically schedules our Safety Consultants about 4-6 weeks in advance. We will contact you with a proposed date for your next inspection.
It is usually recommended that a Post Installation Inspection be carried out before the racking is loaded, which is a service we do offer.
If you need an ETA for our Safety Consultant’s arrival for inspection or training, either our job planning department or training department can provide this information after confirming with the consultant.
The Health and Safety Executive’s guidance on racking inspection is outlined in HSG 76, “Warehousing and Storage: A Guide to Health and Safety.”
This guidance specifies the following inspections:
Visual Inspections
645: The PRRS must ensure inspections occur at weekly or other regular intervals based on a risk assessment. Maintain a formal written record of these inspections.
Expert Inspections
646: A technically competent person must conduct inspections at least every 12 months. They should provide a written report to the PRRS with observations and recommendations for necessary actions.
647: A technically competent person can be a trained specialist within the organization, a specialist from the rack supplier, or an independent qualified rack inspector.
After completing our inspection training, individuals will be competent to perform only the ‘Visual’ inspections.
Refresher training is legally required in some high-risk industries. In most cases, including our own, it is recommended but not mandatory. Since working practices, legislation, and guidance frequently change, and to prevent bad habits and complacency, we recommend refresher training every three years.
Our previous “How to Inspect Pallet Racking” course was similar to the course offered by the Storage Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA). We no longer offer this course and now provide the “Racking and Shelving Safety Awareness” course, which is the official SEMA course. The old course was only approved by SEMA.
The new course covers similar scope, content, and teaching methods as the old one. The main difference is that the new course does not include an assessment of learning, such as a test at the end.
This course aims to provide duty holders and individuals responsible for maintaining pallet racking with adequate training. By the end of the course, participants will understand how to safely replace normal racking components such as uprights, beams, and bracing.
However, this training does not establish competence in assembling new racking. If you have any special requirements, please contact the Training Department. +44 (0)1670 736444
